Reframing Charles Jervas’ Lady Elizabeth and Lady Henrietta Finch

In 2013, the Friends of Kenwood contributed towards a replacement frame for Charles Jervas’ Lady Elizabeth and Lady Henrietta Finch, c.1730−1731.

Although this portrait of Lord Mansfield’s wife Lady Betty (Elizabeth) née Finch never hung at Kenwood, it now takes pride of place over the sideboard in the Entrance Hall (formerly Dining Parloiur), surrounded by other portraits of Lord Mansfield and his family.

The curatorial team was keen to replace the plain wooden moulding that had framed this painting since its acquisition. Master framemaker Tom Proctor made a beautiful new neoclassical frame modelled on an original frame for Lely’s portrait of Sir Heneage Finch, 1st Earl of Nottingham, which was hanging at Kenwood during the 1st Earl of Mansfield’s period of occupancy.
